Principal's Message

‌Welcome to Donald R. Getty K-9 School. My name is Robert Steenwinkel and I am very pleased to be the first principal of Donald R. Getty K-9 School. I want you to know that I will lead our school so that it will embrace lifelong learning. Through the promotion and development of positive relationships among students, faculty, staff, and administrators we will foster academic achievement, embrace diversity and nurture respect for one another. I believe schools that are informed, energetic and thoughtful are successful schools. School communities need to have a positive climate and a supportive culture and open communication with mutual respect is key to this.

Donald R. Getty K-9 School will open with inclusive classroom learning spaces for students from kindergarten to grade nine. We are also working to have a child care service provider on site and more information will be available about this service soon. I look forward to working with you as partners in your child’s educational career and would encourage you to keep in touch with us as we move towards school opening on September 5, through our social media accounts below. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of any assistance in the weeks ahead.

Donald R. Getty School will host an Open House event on March 8 to allow parents and students who may be considering joining us for the 2018 - 2019 school year, an opportunity to visit the school.
Please join us and see our teaching and learning environment for students from kindergarten to grade nine.

Donald R. Getty K-9 School is dedicated to high levels of achievement. The staff of Donald R. Getty embrace the purpose of our school, which is to help all students learn the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes that will prepare them for success in the 21st century. This focus will be evident in every aspect of our school culture, as staff will continually examine evidence of student learning and identify interventions and extensions necessary to ensure all students find success.

At Donald R. Getty School, students focus on the acronym RAH.

  • Respectful: Respectful to themselves, each other, the school and all within it, and to our world community.
  • Active: Physical and mental activity are part of our community and form the basis for all that we do together as teaching and learning teams.
  • Healthy: All school community members eat healthy diets, live healthy lives and consider how this impacts ourselves and others.

2018-2019 School Registration

Donald R. Getty School has a primary, secondary and then open boundary for registration for the 2018 - 2019 school year

  • Students who live in our primary attendance area of Chappelle West will have guaranteed access to programming in our K-9 school community environment.
  • Students who live in our secondary attendance area of Chappelle East will have secondary access to programming once all registrations from the primary boundary have been received (April 30) in our K-9 school community environment, if space provides at the chosen grade level.
